Like most Greenland towns the residents keep sled dogs  chained up on every available scrap of land during the summer. They didn't look very friendly so I kept my distance.

At least twice a day something would set them all howling at the same time, it was like walking through a huge wolf pack.
Every possible spot was used for housing with wooden stairs and walkways linking all the "subdivisions"

There are no apartment buildings in Uummannaq.
The church isn't very old (1935) but it is an unusual design for Greenland and was built from local granite.
There are a surprising number of roads so of course there are police cars. My policeman friend in Proven told me that these fancy SUV's are delivered with air conditioning!
