The unique double decker trams have been plying their routes in Hong Kong for over 100 years.  It is the cheapest and most interesting way to tour Hong Kong Island.   Although the trams seats 48 passengers on two levels, at rush hour upwards of a hundred or more may squeeze aboard.  From the tram we took the #14 bus to Stanley

It was enjoyable, watching the city from the top deck.  The bus ride was terrifying with narrow roads, steep climbs and hair pin bends, all taken at break neck speed, by a very confident driver.  We were the only tourists on the bus

Stanley

In 1937 the British built a prison here,  little imagining that they themselves would be occupying it as guests of the Japanese Emperor

Sampan around Aberdeen

Six thousand people live and work here on anchored junks, sharing their space with heavy commercial traffic and tour boats

Renting from one of the elderly women touting for business will test your bargaining skills.   Aberdeen was crowded with sightseeing boats which came pretty close to ramming into our little sampan.  I much preferred to observe life onboard the junks from the shore at Causeway

Jumbo Floating Restaurant

"The three story extravaganza looks like Beijing's Imperial Palace crossed with Macau's Casino Lisboa, so kitch it's fun"   LP Guide

Billed as the most luxurious floating restaurant in the world.  Good enough for the Queen of England and Tom Cruise but not together methinks

Opened in 1976 Jumbo has featured in several major movies
