2005 River Trip & Walk About
                                          My idea of white water

Once again Mr JoJo was our guide, this time for a  hike to a jungle monastery and a pretty Shan Village.  We motored upstream with me enjoying the chattering of hundreds of birds on the bank.  Tony told me it was the sound of the engine reverberating off the banks, oh well once an engineer always an engineer

We stopped at the village and dropped off some noodles and tomatoes, which would be prepared for our lunch on the way back.  On the far bank we climbed a steep hill

Making our way through fertile fields of yellow and blue flowers we saw pineapple, peaches,  papaya, chillies and oranges growing

It will be a busy life on the land but it looks like a lovely place to live and work in the sunshine.  Hsipaw is high up and it gets cool here.  While we were wearing light pants and tee shirts the locals were already bundled up and feeling 'the cold'

Pineapple, I had never seen them growing before

Lawy Yone aka "Deep In Jungle" Monastery

Young monks having rice, for their only meal of the day

Our lunch destination is only reachable by boat and somewhat surprisingly, rail.   The track runs right through the village

Big Garden Village

There has been a village here for over 100 years and it is well named, everywhere was well tended and looked prosperous.  Someone had turned our noodles and tomatoes into a delicious Shan dish featuring a spicy tomato sauce

The children enjoyed watching us eat.  As one might expect, they were well nourished and we enjoyed their company
