Yes, we really did have to thread our way through that lot! Luckily the wind was light.
Most of the ice is growlers and bergy bits which have come straight off the glacier near Ilulissat.
This solid wall of ice is the end of the Ilulissat Ice fiord. The passage to the town lies to the north of this barrier.
This is as close as we got to the mouth of the ice fiord. We had trouble finding a way through to Ilulissat until we spotted a local boat which pointed out the best way. You have to take a loop to the north to find a clear path (called a "lead") into the harbour.
